Roger II. Trencavel

Roger II Trencavel († 1194) was the Viscount of Béziers, Carcassonne and Albi 1167-1194. He was the son of Raymond I. Trencavel and his wife acid.

Life

1167 he followed his father, who had been killed by the consuls of Béziers.

His reign was marked by the advent of the Cathars and the attempts by the Catholic Church to combat this heresy. Especially in the siege of Lavaur accumulated this dispute, which also attracted the interim excommunication of Roger by, among other things.

In 1171 he married the daughter of the Count of Toulouse Adélaïde. After 13 years of marriage, the couple had the hoped-for offspring, Raymond -Roger.
