Roger Liddle, Baron Liddle

Roger John Liddle, Baron Liddle of Carlisle in the County of Cumbria ( born June 14, 1947 in Carlisle, Cumbria ) is a British politician of the Social Democratic Party ( SDP ) and Labour Party, which since 2010 as a Life Peer Member of the House of Lords.

Life

After visiting the Carlisle Grammar School Liddle graduated in subjects History and Management at Queen 's College, University of Oxford. He began his political career in local politics and was 1971-1976 for the Labour Party Member of the City Council of Oxford and most recently from 1973 to 1976 and deputy chairman. In 1981 he left the Labour Party and joined the newly formed Social Democratic Party, the National Committee he served 1981-1986. During this time he represented the SDP from 1982 to 1986 as a member of the Council of the London Borough of Lambeth.

After the dissolution of the SDP, he returned to the Labour Party and was a member of the party's campaign for electoral reforms and the Labour Movement for Europe. After he was a member of the Council of the London Borough of Lambeth again between 1994 and 1995, Liddle was between 1997 and 2004 as European policy special adviser to Prime Minister Tony Blair. Upon completion of this activity, he joined in 2004 as a special advisor to the new President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, in Brussels and practiced this activity until 2007.

By Letters Patent of June 19, 2010 Liddle was, which was between 2007 and 2010 Chairman of Cumbria Vision, as a life peer with the title Baron raised Liddle of Carlisle in the County of Cumbria, in the peerage.
