Rogerius of Apulia

Rogero di Puglia ( * 1201/1205, Torre Magiore, Puglia, Italy;? † April 14, 1266 ) was between April 30, 1249 and his death a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Spalato (now Split, Croatia), historian and author by Carmen Miserabilae.

After completing his theological studies in Rome, he worked as a chaplain in the service of Cardinal Giacomo Pecorari ( 1170-1244 ). In 1232 he accompanied his cardinal in an apostolic mission to the Kingdom of Hungary, where he was archdeacon of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Oradea. There he witnessed the Mongol invasion and described this happening in Carmen Miserabilae. On April 30, 1249, he was appointed by the mediation of Cardinal Giovanni Tolentanus by Pope Innocent IV to the Archbishop of Spalato.
