History

Rogers & Wells was founded in 1873 in New York. After several name changes, the firm was named after William P. Rogers and Jack Wells. It employed up to 400 attorneys and had offices in New York, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Paris, London, Hong Kong and Frankfurt.

In 2000 it merged with Clifford Chance and Pünder, Volhard, Weber & Axster and kept until 2003 in the United States the name Clifford Chance Roger & Wells. Shortly before and after the merger, they left several partners, including on Kayle Scholer. The partners in Paris switched to Kramer Levin.

Fields of activity

Rogers & Wells was known for its litigation department. The firm was also in the international financial market actively. In this area the bank Merrill Lynch was their biggest customer.
