Roland Cardon

Roland Cardon ( born April 15, 1929 in Ronse, † 18 August 2001) was a Belgian musician, composer, music teacher and conductor. He also used the pseudonym Guy Rodenhof.

His brother Denis taught him the first exercises on the clarinet and introduced him to the staff. He joined the Royal harmony Sint- Cecilia, Ronse and its conductor Maurice Flamant advised him to go to the Music Academy in Ronse. There they taught him music theory, flute, cello and saxophone. After the Second World War, he began his musical studies at the Conservatory in Ghent. There he graduated in flute and chamber music. He continued his studies at the Conservatory in Liège at Sylvain Dupuis harmony, counterpoint and fugue.

Life and work

In 1954 he entered the service of the Band of the 12th Brigade in Aarlen as a solo flutist. In 1957 he became conductor of the Band of the 4th Brigade in Liege. The Band of the domestic forces in Aarlen made ​​him in 1963 its conductor before he was formed in 1973 as the successor of Charles Frison conductor of Musikkapel van de Rijkswacht in Brussels. This position he held until his retirement on 31 December 1981.

Besides his work as conductor of the military band, he was a sought-after teacher and lecturer at music academies and conservatories. In the period 1963-1972 he was the responsible lecturer for woodwinds and orchestral music in the Music School of Aarlen. 1973 to 1982 he taught flute at the Music Academy in Vilvoorde. In addition, he taught at the Rijksmuziekacademie in Etterbeek also flute by 1973 until 1977. Between 1974 and 1977 he was a lecturer in conducting from blowing or fanfare orchestras at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. From 1 January 1982 to 1 July 1994, he was Director of the Municipal Conservatory in Oostende.

Roland Cardon was a versatile composer.
