Rolande Falcinelli

Rolande Falcinelli ( born February 18, 1920 in Paris, † 11 June 2006 in Pau) was a French composer, pianist, music teacher and organist.

Life

Rolande Falcinelli studied from 1932 at the Paris Conservatory with Isidore Philipp and Abel Estyle (piano), Marcel Samuel -Rousseau (harmony ), Simone Plé - Caussade ( counterpoint), Henri Busser (composition). The entry into the piano class of the Conservatoire in 1940 was denied her in the general disorganization of the war years, which is why she decided to study privately with Gaston Litaize organ, which eventually culminated in the organ class of Marcel Dupré at the Conservatoire. In 1941 she was awarded the Prix Rossini of the Académie des Beaux -Arts for her oratorio La Messiah. In 1942 she won the Second Grand Prix de Rome in composition. Six years later, in 1948, led by heart in the Salle Pleyel in Paris, all published up to this time organ works of Marcel Dupré, whose music always was at the center of their interests.

From 1946 to 1973 she was titular organist at the Parisian church of Sacré- Cœur. In addition, she taught from 1948 to 1955 organ at the Conservatoire Américain in Fontainebleau, conducted from 1951 to 1955 the organ department at the École Normale de Musique and 1955-1987 the organ class at the Conservatoire. Among her many students included, among others, Odile Pierre, Pierre Gazin, Xavier Darasse, Louis Thiry, Yves Devernay, Francis Ciappelletto, André Isoir, Daniel Roth, Jean -Pierre Leguay, Louis Robilliard, Philippe Lefebvre, Maurice Clerc, Patrice Caire, Marie- Bernadette Dufourcet and Naji Hakim.

In addition to numerous organ compositions she wrote works for piano, harpsichord, solo instruments, orchestra, choir and singing.

Rolande Falcinelli died on 11 June 2006 at the age of 86 in Pau, France. From her marriage to Felix Otto, an employee of the NDR in Hamburg, she had a daughter, Sylviane (* 1956), a French musicologist.
