Rolf de Heer

Rolf de Heer ( born May 4, 1951 in Heemskerk, Netherlands) is an Australian film director, screenwriter and film producer.

He and his family immigrated in 1959 when he was eight years old, from the Netherlands to Sydney. Before he completed his studies in directing and producing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School from 1977 to 1980, he spent seven years working in the Australian broadcasting. In the 1980s he established himself as an independent filmmaker. Since the mid- 1990s his films in competition at the most important international film festivals (Venice, Cannes and Berlin ) are shown. For the film Bad Boy Bubby, he won at the 1993 International Film Festival in Venice a Special Jury Prize and Best Director of the Australian Film Institute.

His production company, Vertigo Productions is based in Adelaide. With this he also produced his film 10 Canoes, 150 spears and 3 women (2006), which was filmed in the language of Ganalbingu. This film has been honored with over ten awards; again including the Director's Award of the Australian Film Institute for de Heer and the Jury Prize of Un Certain Regard at the International Film Festival in Cannes.
