Rolf Iseli

Rolf Iseli ( born January 22, 1934 in Bern ) is a Swiss painter and printmaker.

Life

Rolf Iseli was born on January 22, 1934 in Bern. He visited in the years 1950-1954 the School of Applied Arts in Bern and received training as a lithographer. After training he received in 1955 a scholarship to spend a year in Paris. In France he sought the acquaintance of young American artists such as Sam Francis and others. 1957 Iseli his first solo exhibition in the "Gallery 33 " in Bern. In 1961, Rolf Iseli acquires land in Saint -Romain (Burgundy ) in France and lives henceforth alternately there and in Bern.

In the years 1962-1976 Iseli study trips to New York, Moscow and China. Rolf Iseli currently lives and works in Bern and Saint- Romain.

He lives in Bern and Saint- Romain, Burgundy, France.

Work

Rolf Iseli is one of the most important representatives of the artistic avant-garde in Switzerland after the war.

By the year 1966 Iseli painted mainly oil paintings in the style of informal art. After 1966 there are no more oil paintings more, but only lithographs, engravings, watercolors and collages. From the year 1969, he also manufactures cast iron objects with three-dimensional spatial design. From 1971 on, he creates works as " material painting" and his " Earth images ," in which he used a sand and soil, as well as rushes and nails (eg " Big Cake ", 1971). From the mid- 70s caused many large-format prints.
