Romairon

Romairon was a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. On 1 July 2011, the municipality Romairon merged with Fontanezier, Vaugondry and Villars -Burquin the new community Tévenon.

Geography

Romairon is located on 807 m above sea level. M., 7 km north of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The farming village extends in a clearing on the island of Jura south slope, in a promising position almost 400 m above the lake level of Lake Neuchâtel.

The area of ​​4.9 km ² large former municipal area comprises a narrow section of the Jura south slope and on the Chasseron chain. The communal land extends from the edge of the Grand Bois below the village northwards over the steep slopes of the Jura (La Côte ) to the crest En Tévenon on which to 1,330 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation reached by Romairon. North of this ridge lie the trough Creux aux Chèvres as well as the heights of Gran du Ve ( 1,303 m above sea level. M. ) and La Rondaneire ( 1,323 m above sea level. M. ). On the crest there are extensive Jura high grazing pastures with the typical tall spruce trees that are either individually or in groups. In the extreme northwest, the area extends into the gorge Poëta Raisse that is from Bied, a right-hand side of the brook Areuse, drained. From the municipality surface 1997 2 % came from settlements, 60 % of forest and woody plants and 38% to agriculture.

The municipality Romairon included some individual farms, which are scattered through the Jura hills. Neighboring communities of Romairon were Provence, Fontanezier, Champagne, Vaugondry, Villars- Burquin and Mauborget in the Canton of Vaud and Val- de -Travers in the canton of Neuchatel.

Population

With 32 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) was one Romairon of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud and Switzerland. All residents speak French as their mother tongue (as of 2000). The population of Romairon amounted in 1900 to about 95 people, but then took by strong migration to 1980 by almost two-thirds to 36 residents aged.

Economy

In Romairon the employment structure is still dominated by agriculture. In the area of the village a little farming is operated while predominate the cattle and dairy industry of the Jura heights. Outside the primary sector, there is little employment in the village.

Traffic

Romairon is far away from the major thoroughfares. The place can be reached by a main road of Champagne. The nearest links to the motorway A5 ( Yverdon- Neuchatel ) is located approximately 6 km from the town center. By Postbus course, which runs from Yverdon Mauborget, Romairon is connected to the public transport network.

History

The municipality was relatively late cleared and brought under cultivation. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1403 under the name Romeyron. Romairon belonged in the Middle Ages to the rule Grandson. After 1476 Grandson was a bailiff under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime Romairon belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. The place does not have its own church, he belongs to the parish Villars -Burquin.
