Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Blantyre

The Archdiocese of Blantyre (Latin: Archidioecesis Blantyrensis ) is one of two Roman Catholic archdioceses in Malawi.

The diocese was founded on December 3, 1903 by Pope Pius X as the Prefecture Apostolic of Shire from the Vicariate of Nyassa out; first bishop was the Frenchman Auguste Prezeau. On April 14, 1908, the name change to the Vicariate Apostolic of Shire was followed, on 15 May 1952, the name change to the Apostolic Vicariate of Blantyre. By Pope John XXIII. took place on 25 April 1959, the survey of the archdiocese.

The Archdiocese of Blantyre based in Blantyre are assigned to the suffragan bishopric Chikwawa (1965 ), Diocese of Mangochi (1973 ) and Diocese of Zomba (1959).
