Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lima

The Archdiocese of Lima (Latin: Archidioecesis Limanus, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Lima ) is a location in Peru Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Lima.

History

The diocese of Lima was on May 14, 1541 Pope Paul III. built with the Papal Bull Illuis fulciti Praesidio out of territory of the Diocese of Cuzco. It was the archbishopric of Seville is a suffragan.

On 12 February 1546 the diocese of Lima was by Pope Paul III. raised to an archbishopric. In addition, it was the seat of a metropolitan. The Archdiocese had in its history several times parts of its territory from the creation of new dioceses.

The Archbishop of Lima since 1572 also Primate of Peru. Since 1946, all archbishops of Lima were created cardinals, so Lima is considered traditionally associated with the cardinal bishopric.
