Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lubumbashi
The Archdiocese of Lubumbashi (Latin: Archidioecesis Lubumbashiensis ) is a located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Lubumbashi.
History
The Archdiocese of Lubumbashi was established on August 5, 1910 by Pope Pius X. territorial concessions from the Apostolic Vicariate of Léopoldville as Apostolic Prefecture of Katanga. On May 12, 1925, the Apostolic Prefecture of Katanga were from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Luapula Superiore. The Apostolic Prefecture of Katanga was born on March 22, 1932 by Pope Pius XI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Magna cum delectatione Apostolic Vicariate.
On November 10, 1959, the Vicariate Apostolic of Katanga was by Pope John XXIII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum to an archbishopric and renamed the Archdiocese of Elizabethville. The Archdiocese of Elizabethville was renamed on 30 May 1966 in Archdiocese of Lubumbashi.
