Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Montes Claros

The Archdiocese of Montes Claros (Latin: Archidioecesis Montisclarensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais.

History

The Archdiocese of Montes Claros was established on December 10, 1910 by Pope Pius X with the Apostolic Constitution postulate sane out of territory of the Diocese of Diamantina diocese as Montes Claros. The Diocese of Montes Claros was the archbishopric Mariana is a suffragan. On June 28, 1917, the Diocese of Montes Claros was the Archdiocese of Diamantina is a suffragan. The Diocese of Montes Claros was on March 1, 1929 from parts of its territory establishing the Territorialprälatur Paracatu. For more territorial concessions were made on 15 June 1957 establishing the bishopric Januaria and on 5 July 2000 establishing the bishopric Janaúba.

On 25 April 2001, the Diocese of Montes Claros was elevated by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Maiori christifidelium to an archbishopric.
