Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Montreal

The Archdiocese of Montréal (Latin: Archidioecesis Marianopolitanus ) is a location in Canada Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Montreal.

History

The Archdiocese of Montréal was on 13 May in 1836 by Pope Gregory XVI. built with the Apostolic Constitution Apostolici ministerii of cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Quebec as Montreal and this diocese is a suffragan. The Diocese of Montreal announced on 25 June 1847 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Bytown. A further transfer of territory took place on June 8, 1852 establishing the bishopric of Saint- Hyacinthe.

On June 8, 1886, the Diocese of Montreal by Pope Leo XIII was. raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Montreal announced on April 5, 1892 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Valleyfield. Other annexations took place on January 27, 1904 to the founding of the diocese of Joliette and at the June 9, 1933 to the foundation of the diocese of Saint -Jean -de -Québec. On June 23, 1951, the Archdiocese of Montréal were from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Saint- Jérôme.

The Archdiocese of Montreal is traditionally connected with the cardinal bishopric.
