Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver

The Archdiocese of Vancouver (Latin: Archidioecesis Vancuveriensis ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Canada, based in Vancouver.

Location and data

It extends over an area of ​​around 120,000 km ² in southern and central part of British Columbia. In the Archdiocese of life 465 717 Catholics - that is 17.5 % of the total population who are looked after pastorally in 77 parishes (as of April 2011).

History

The Archdiocese was established as Apostolic Vicariate of British Columbia in 1863 and raised in 1890 to the diocese of New Westminster. In 1908 it received its current name to the rank of archbishopric.
