Roman Catholic Diocese of Caroline Islands

The Diocese of Caroline (Latin: Dioecesis Carolinensium ) is a location in Micronesia Roman Catholic diocese based in Chuuk.

History

The Diocese of the Caroline was sui juris Eastern Carolines and the dissolved Mission established as Apostolic Prefecture Caroline on December 19, 1905, Pope Pius X in areas of resolved mission sui juris Western Caroline Islands, both on May 15, 1886 the Apostolic Vicariate Micronesia were founded out. On March 1, 1911, the Apostolic Prefecture Caroline was raised by Pius X. Apostolic Vicariate. In addition, the Apostolic Vicariate of the territory of the dissolved Mariana Apostolic Prefecture was affiliated. On May 4, 1923 the Vicariate Apostolic of Mariana and Caroline Islands, the territory of the dissolved Marshall Islands Apostolic Prefecture was affiliated. The Apostolic Vicariate of Mariana, Caroline and Marshall Islands were on 4 July 1946 from the territory of the Mariana Islands to the Vicariate Apostolic of Guam and was renamed Vicariate Apostolic Carolines and Marshall Islands.

On May 3, 1979, the Apostolic Vicariate of Caroline and Marshall Islands was raised by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Tametsi Ecclesiae to the diocese and renamed Diocese of the Caroline Marshall Islands. It was the archbishopric Agaña a suffragan. The Diocese of the Caroline Marshall Islands was divided on 23 April 1993 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Quo expeditius in the Diocese of Caroline Islands and the Marshall Islands Apostolic Prefecture.
