Roman Catholic Diocese of Chiang Mai

The Diocese of Chiang Mai (Latin: Dioecesis Chiangmaiensis, Thai: สังฆมณฑล เชียงใหม่ ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in northern Thailand.

The diocese covers an area of ​​89,483 km ² with the provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phayao, Phrae. It is the Archdiocese of Bangkok, is a suffragan.

History

The diocese goes back to the Apostolic Prefecture of Chieng -Mai, which was erected on 17 November 1959. On 18 December 1965 she was elevated to the bishopric.

Cathedral

The current Sacred Heart Cathedral in Chiang Mai was inaugurated on 30 October 1999. It is already the third Sacred Heart Church, first built in 1931, it was replaced shortly before the survey to the diocese of the same name by a new cathedral.
