Roman Catholic Diocese of Coimbatore

The Diocese of Coimbatore (Latin: Dioecesis Coimbaturensis ) is a located in India Roman Catholic diocese based in Coimbatore. It comprises parts of the districts Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Tiruchirappalli and Palakkad in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The cathedral of the diocese is St. Michael 's Cathedral, Coimbatore.

History

The Diocese of Coimbatore in 1850 by Pope Pius IX. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of the Diocese of Madura and Coromandel Coast and Madura built as Apostolic Vicariate of Coimbatore. On September 1, 1886, the Apostolic Vicariate of Coimbatore was raised to the bishopric. The diocese announced on June 12, 1923 parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Calicut and 28 December 2013 from the foundation of the diocese Sultanpet. The Diocese of Coimbatore is the Archdiocese of Madras - Mylapore, is a suffragan.
