History

The diocese Coroata was on August 26, 1977 by Pope Paul VI. built with the Apostolic Constitution Dei Qui benevolentissimi of cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão and this is a suffragan. First bishop was Reinhard Pünder.
