Roman Catholic Diocese of Nitra
The Diocese of Nitra diocese or Neutra (Latin: Dioecesis Nitriensis; Slovak:: Nitrianska diecéza. ) Is a Roman Catholic diocese in the north- west of Slovakia, based in Nitra.
History
- 880: Foundation of the Diocese as part of Great Moravia under the chairmanship of the Holy Methodius ( the diocese was in the 10th century, probably under )
- 1110 (or earlier ): Re-establishment of the diocese in the north of the former Kingdom of Hungary. The diocese at this time is part of the ecclesiastical province of Gran
- 1977: As part of a decoupling of the Catholic Church in Slovakia from Hungary in the Diocese of Nitra is transferred from the ecclesiastical province of Gran in the newly created province of Bratislava - Trnava church.
