Roman Catholic Diocese of Oita

The Diocese of Oita (Latin: Dioecesis Oitaensis, Japaneseカトリック 大分 教区, katorikku Oita Kyoku ) is a location in Japan Roman Catholic diocese based in Oita.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the mission sui juris Miyazaki with the Breve Supremi Apostolatus on March 27 in 1927 of territory of the Diocese of Fukuoka. With the Apostolic Constitution Ad potioris dignitatis it was raised on 28 January 1935 Diocese.

According to the bull Quae universo it laid on 22 December 1961 a bishopric from Miyazaki to Oita and adopted its current name.

The Diocese of Oita Oita and Miyazaki prefectures includes on the island of Kyūshū. The diocese covers an area of ​​14,071 km ² and 2,376,414 inhabitants, of whom 6,288 Catholics. There are 26 parishes, 50 priests (14 world and 36 religious), 228 sisters and four major seminarians.
