Roman Catholic Diocese of Pointe-Noire

The diocese of Pointe -Noire (Latin: Dioecesis Nigrirostrensis ) is a located in the Republic of the Congo Roman Catholic diocese based in Pointe- Noire.

History

The diocese of Pointe- Noire was on October 14, 1890 by Pope Leo XIII. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of French Congo established as Apostolic Vicariate Lower French Congo. On April 22, 1907, the Vicariate Apostolic of Lower French Congo was renamed the Vicariate Apostolic of Loango. The Apostolic Vicariate of Loango was renamed on January 20, 1949 in Apostolic Vicariate of Pointe- Noire.

On September 14, 1955, the Apostolic Vicariate of Pointe -Noire was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Dum Tantis to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Brazzaville is a suffragan. The diocese of Pointe- Noire was on December 5, 1983 from parts of its territory to the foundation of the diocese Nkayi.
