Roman Catholic Diocese of Å ibenik

The Diocese of Šibenik ( kroat. Šibenska Biskupija; Latin: Dioecesis Sebenicensis o Sibenicensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in Croatia. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Split - Makarska. Currently Monsignor Ante IVAs is Bishop of Šibenik.

History

The first written document of the city of Šibenik is clear from the 1066. In it is not only reports on the city of Šibenik, but also about the Croatian King Petar Krešimir IV and the Monastery of the Holy Mother of God in Zadar. Pope Boniface VIII can build the diocese Šibenik in 1298. The first bishop of the diocese is Martin Rabljan. The Diocese of Šibenik were placed under the following dioceses in his diocesan history: the diocese of Trogir, the diocese of Knin and the Diocese of Skradin. At the present cathedral of Šibenik exactly 105 years was built ( 1431-1536 ). In 1555 the church building was dedicated. Pope Leo XIII. raised the Cathedral of Šibenik in 1895 to the basilica. It is the largest architectural monument of the Renaissance in Croatia. On June 21, 1970 Nikola Tavelic was a Franciscan priest and a son of the town of Šibenik by Pope Paul VI. canonized. Another important Franciscans and son of the city was Ante Antic. The process of his beatification and canonization is currently pending in the Vatican.
