Roman Catholic Diocese of Xuzhou

The Diocese of Xuzhou (Latin: Dioecesis Siuceuvensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Xuzhou in the People's Republic of China.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded with the Breve ad rei christianae the Apostolic Prefecture Süchow on July 1 of 1931 annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nanking. On June 18, 1935, she was charged with the Bull Merito lubenterque to the rank of Apostolic Vicariate.

With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised on April 11, 1946 Diocese. In 1959, Thomas Qian Yu- rong was appointed bishop who governed the diocese until today. Since 30 November 2006, the diocese has a Coadjutor Bishop in the person of John Wang Renlei whose ordination caused a controversy and a strong official response of the Holy See.
