Roman Codreanu

Roman Codreanu ( born November 17, 1952 in Zimandu Nou, Arad County, † 26 May 2001, Arad, Arad County ) was a Romanian wrestler.

Career

Roman Codreanu was as a teenager very difficult. The struggle was therefore for him the right sport. After his talent was recognized, he was delegated to the sports club Astra Arad. After winning the Romanian championship super heavyweight, he has also been used in international competitions, scoring many successes. His weight at that time was about 145 kg. He achieved his greatest success in 1978 when he became European Champion superior in Oslo and thereby also the multiple Bulgarian world champion Alexandar Tomow defeated. Overall, it was eight times Romanian champion in the super heavyweight division. After the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, he ended his active career, as the world governing body FILA had set the upper limit of the weight class on unattainable for Codreanu 130 kg.

From the early 1980s he studied at the Institute of Education and Sports in Bucharest and graduated in 1986 with a degree in physical education teacher from. Codreanu became coach in Arad, had to give up this office but for health reasons in 1998. To supplement his pension, he then took on the job of the card seller at Astra Arad. He died in 2001 at the age of 48 years from the effects of severe heart disease and left behind a wife and two sons.
