Roman Wörndle

Roman Wörndle ( born October 4, 1913 in Partenkirchen, † February 2nd 1942 in Lemniza ) was a German alpine skier. He belonged in the 1930s to the best skiers in the German Reich.

His greatest successes came at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. He finished third in the slalom 5th place in the downhill on the 6th Place and in the combined score the 5th Place. The following year, on 15 February 1937, he won the bronze medal in the slalom at the Alpine World Skiing Championships in Chamonix. At the World Cup 1938 in the Swiss Engelberg, he finished on March 5, once again rank 5 in the exit ( at the same time Squidward Schwabl ) and Rank 6 in the combination.

During World War II Wörndle served with the rank of sergeant in a Skijagdkommando the Wehrmacht. He fell in early 1942 during the war against the Soviet Union on the Eastern Front.
