The text of the anthem was written by Zarko Jovanović 1969, which is the expulsion and murder of Roma by the Croatian fascists, the so-called "Black Legion" describes. It is based on a song that was very popular during the 1960s when the Serbian Roma and probably comes from Romania. The melody comes from a love song of Serbian Roma, which has become known through the film by Aleksandar Petrović Skupljači Perja in which it is interpreted by Olivera Katarina.

1971 declared the first Roma World Congress for common anthem of the movement.

Since the Romani is no single written language, there are different versions of the text, which may differ slightly in meaning content.
