Romanian People's Salvation Cathedral

The redemption of the Romanian people (Romanian Catedrala Mântuirii Neamului Românesc ) is a cathedral under construction church building of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Bucharest. You should replace the St. Konstantin and Helena Cathedral as Patriarchal Church and become a " symbol of the Romanian soul."

The idea to build a cathedral of the redemption of the people came by the late Patriarch Teoctist I and will continue to be sought by his successor, Daniel. The cathedral is to provide you with 120 m length, 70 m width and 120 m altitude 5,000 people space and thus one of the largest Orthodox churches worldwide. The complex will also include, among other things, two multi-purpose halls for 1000 persons, two hostels for pilgrims and a soup kitchen. Funding for the project will be accepted by patriarchy, but co-financed by large donors and by the Romanian state.

The cathedral built on the site of the Izvor Park near the Parliament Palace. Construction began on 3 September 2010 with the blessing of the land by Patriarch Daniel. Completion is scheduled for 2015.

The major project is controversial in the Romanian public.
