Geography

The village is located southwest of Römerswil Baldeggersee 3 km west of the village high on the eastern slopes of the Erlosen. The village Herlisberg ( 737 m asl ), an independent municipality until 1 January 2005 and now the district, is located 3.3 km north- west of it. The municipal area includes numerous hamlets, groups of houses and farmsteads. Northernmost settlements of the municipality are Waldhaus ( 794 m above sea level: , 4 km north-west ) and the hamlet Laufenberg (593 m above sea level, 4 km in the north of the village Römerswil ). In the hamlet of Upper Reinach ( 734 m above sea level, 2.2 km north of the village ), the ruins of the castle top Reinach. Just between the village and the upper Reinach lies the hamlet Ludigen ( 753 m asl ). The municipality extends to the district Nunwil (476 m asl, 2 km north-east of the village ) down to the south shore of Baldeggersee. Immediately west of the high village, already in the valley level, the district is Huwil (471 m above sea level, 2.3 km east of the village ), which is drained by the Sagenbach. 2.3 km to the southeast lies the southern most point of the municipality, the hamlet Rehag. Traffic

History

The district Herlisberg emerged as Erlinsberg in 1150 in a certificate of ownership of the monastery of All Saints in Schaffhausen first time. The community first was under the Counts of Lenzburg, then from 1173 to the Counts of Kyburg and as its successor from 1263 to the Habsburgs. All these gentlemen left the administration about the Knights of Reinach who had their headquarters in the castle Oberrinach.
