Romica Puceanu

Romica Puceanu ( born 1926 in Bucharest, † November 1996 in Bucharest ) was a Roma singer from Romania. It is considered the " Grande Dame of Cantece de mahala ".

Life and work

Romica Puceanu was born in 1926 in Bucharest. At the age of 14, she began to sing in local cafes in the Floreasca and Herestrau district on the outskirts of Bucharest. It was her cousin also plays music Aurel and Victor Gore (known as Taraful Fratii Gore ), who discovered and helped her up. With Taraful Fratii Gore in 1964 she took on her first album.
