Rómulo Gallegos

Rómulo Gallegos ( born August 2, 1884 in Caracas, † April 5, 1969 ) was a Venezuelan novelist and politician.

Life

The political career of Rómulo Gallegos began early in the opposition to the Venezuelan dictator Juan Vicente Gómez. Later he joined the Acción Democrática, which provided the country's president since 1945.

In February 1948, he was elected to succeed Rómulo Betancourt as President of Venezuela. However, as president, he was not as successful as a writer. He is said to he more time related in a major political crisis on the writing of his novels than for the affairs of state. In November 1948 he was removed from office by a military junta of the Office.

The novels of the esteemed writer act mostly by the Venezuelan folklore. His most famous works are " La Trepadora ", " Historias Venezolanas " and " Pobre Negro".
