Ron Haslam

Ron Haslam ( born June 22, 1957 in Langley Mill, Nottinghamshire, England) is a former British motorcycle racer, who during his career has won three world championships and four British championships and a total of 106 Grands Prix has denied in the Motorcycle World Championship.

Ron Haslam is the father of Leon Haslam, who currently starts in the Superbike World Championship. Due to its often very good start, he was nicknamed Rocket Ron.

Career

Haslam began his career in 1972 at the age of 15 years on the 750 cc Norton Commando his brothers Phil and Terry. In his first two races at Cadwell Park he finished seventh and eighth. In 1978 he raced in classes 125 cc, 250 cc, 500 cc, 1000 cc, Superbike and TT -F1. The following year, additionally in the 350 cc class. In Oulton Park and 1979 in Carnaby he won in one day races in five different classes.

Haslam drove many long distance races. His biggest success in this series was in 1979, second place at 8- hour race at Suzuka.

His first race in the Motorcycle World Championship played Ron Haslam in 1977 on a 500 - cc Suzuki at Silverstone. In 1982, three further Grands Prix on the two-stroke Honda NR500 with positions twelve, eleven and 15, as well as a victory in the not belonging to the World Cup Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur on a two-stroke Honda. For the 1983 season Haslam got a Honda contract for work on the side of Freddie Spencer. The British remained in the 500 cc World Championship until the end of season 1990. He reached 61 top ten finishes, including nine podiums. His biggest success was a second place behind Randy Mamola Assen 1985. In the 1987 season, he reached the fourth world rank behind Wayne Gardner, Randy Mamola and Eddie Lawson his best championship result.

Today Ron Haslam supports his son Leon in his racing career and runs a racing school at Donington Park.
