Ron Springett

Ronald "Ron" Deryk George Springett ( born July 22 1935 in Fulham / London ) is an English former football goalkeeper. He completed a total of 33 caps for the England national team and was in all the matches of the 1962 World Cup in Chile in goal.

After Springett had previously played with Queens Park Rangers in the third division, he joined in March 1958 Sheffield Wednesday. There he played the remaining season matches in the First Division, but could not avoid relegation as Table.

With Springett goal Sheffield succeeded as champions of the Second Division of the direct promotion back to the English Elite League, where he remained in 13 of 32 games without conceding a goal. In the following years he was part of the team that ever was able to place in the top half of the table itself, while in 1961 even won the vice-championship. In addition, he made his debut for the England national team on 18 November 1959 Wembley Stadium against Northern Ireland, held one penalty and was henceforth goalkeeper. This continued at the World Cup in Chile in 1962, retired in England in the quarter-final against Brazil with 1:3.

After the World Cup was Alf Ramsey as the new coach of England. Ramsey sat on April 6, 1963 against Scotland for the first time as a goalkeeper Gordon Banks a, then due to its good performance also completed 13 of the subsequent 15 matches and thus repressed Springett. Shortly after he then 1966 was in the FA Cup final, the Sheffield with 2:3 lost against Everton, he was called in the squad for the 1966 World Cup in their own country. He did not come into a team that won the World Cup, but for use.

A year later, Springett returned to his former club Queens Park Rangers and was there with his younger brother, Peter Springett, who moved to Sheffield exchanged. The Queens Park Rangers had just been promoted to the second division and in the 1967/68 season they managed the direct walkover in the first division. After this success, however, came the immediately following relegation to the second division as Table.

After his footballer career Springett has been active in gardening and is now retired.
