Roots Manuva
Roots Manuva (born 1972 in London, real name Rodney Hylton Smith ) is a British hip- hop artist. His style is characterized from a mixture of hip-hop with reggae, dub with strong influences from electronic music. He uses a clear UK-style, style of speech and writing his lyrics accordingly. Roots Manuva released on Big Dada, the hip-hop offshoot of the experimental Ninja Tune label, which is run by Coldcut. His music is considered the precursor of Grime.
Smith grew up in the district of Stockwell in the London Borough of Lambeth in South London. His parents were from a small village in Jamaica Banana Hole where his father was working as a preacher.
