Rosalynn Carter

Eleanor Rosalynn Smith Carter ( born August 18, 1927 in Plains, Georgia) is the wife of the 39th U.S. President, Jimmy Carter, and was from 1977 to 1981, the First Lady of the United States. She stands up for human rights.

Life

She is the daughter of Frances Allethea " Allie " Murray (1905-2000) and Edgar Smith (1896 - 1940).

On July 7, 1946 she married Jimmy Carter. She is the mother of four children:

  • James Earl III "Chip" (* 1950)
  • Donnel Jeffrey ( b. 1952 )
  • Amy Lynn (born 1967 )

Since 1962, when Jimmy Carter was elected Senator from Georgia, Rosalynn be dealt with politics. As First Lady of Georgia, it pushed for the mentally handicapped. She had also worked voluntarily for the hospital in Atlanta and worked for five years Honorary President of the " Georgian Olympiad " for disabled children.

Honors

On 9 August 1999, U.S. President Bill Clinton Carter presented along with her husband the Medal of Freedom ("The Presidential Medal of Freedom" ), the highest civilian award in the United States.
