Rosaura Revueltas

Rosaura Revueltas Sánchez ( born August 6, 1910 in Ciudad Lerdo, Durango, † 30 April 1996 in Cuernavaca ) was a Mexican actress and author.

Life

Rosaura Revueltas was a daughter of the family with many children Revueltas Sánchez. When the family went to Mexico City, Rosaura studied acting and ballet training. She belonged to a folk dance group and played first minor film roles. As of 1946, she then played with in films, initially directed by Emilio Fernández. 1953, she was honored for her performance in " El Rebozo de Soledad " with the silver Premio Ariel.

Revueltas played the role of the miners wife Esperanza Quintero in Salt of the Earth ( Salt of the Earth ), a film about striking Mexican- American miners in New Mexico. Originally, Herbert Biberman for the role of his wife in front of Gale Sondergaard, but opted for a Spanish-language actress. In the McCarthy era, she was arrested while filming an illegal immigrant and alleged Communist contacts, deported to Mexico and placed on the Hollywood blacklist. The rest of the feature film had to be shot with a film Double. " Salt of the Earth " Revueltas was the only U.S. film in which she appeared. In 1956, she was honored for her role of Esperanza Quintero with the French Étoile de Cristal for Best Foreign Actress.

From 1957 to 1960 she lived in Germany. There she worked as a playwright at the Berliner Ensemble. Back in Mexico, she gave lessons in acting classes and wrote more plays before she left for a while to Cuba. After she was arrested by the Hollywood blacklist, she played in 1976 in Mina, viento de libertad with, shortly thereafter, also the role of Tía Licha in Lo Mejor de Teresa and 1977, her last acting role in Balún Canán.

After she gave up acting, she worked at the Berliner Ensemble and Cuba. She was also Jurybeisitzerin at international film festivals, including at the International Film Festival in Berlin in 1986.

In Mexico, she gave yoga classes and published in 1979, the family biography Los Revueltas: Biografía de una familia. At the age of 87 years, she died of lung cancer, leaving behind her son Arturo Bodenstedtstraße who was her only child.
