Roscoea scillifolia

The Szillablättrige Ingwerorchidee ( Roscoea scillifolia ) is a species of the genus Roscoea in the ginger family ( Zingiberaceae ).

Features

The Szillablättrige Ingwerorchidee is a perennial plant, the plant height (6 ) 10 to 27 (37 ) reaches centimeters. It forms a vertical rhizome with tuberous roots. The corolla tube is 1.6 to 3 inches long. The cover sheets measure 2.6 to 5 × 1 to 2.3 inches, are as long as the calyx or longer, and obtuse or acute. The lip measuring 1.3 to 2 × 0.8 to 1.2 centimeters. The staminodes are elliptical to wrong verkehrteiförmig and measure 1 to 1.4 × 0.3 to 0.5 centimeters. The flowers are a deep black purple to pink or white in color. Bloom time is from June to September.

The rosablütige form reaches stature heights of 15 to 20 centimeters and blooms from August to September, the dark purple 25 to 30 inches and blooms from June to July.

Occurrence

The Szillablättrige Ingwerorchidee comes in Southwest China in the North and West Yunnan live on moist, open, rocky mountain meadows at altitudes 2700-3400 meters.

Use

The Szillablättrige Ingwerorchidee is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens. It is in culture since about 1912.
