Rose Gottemoeller

Rose Gottemoeller ( born March 24, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio) is an American currently (2012 ) Acting Secretary of State for arms control and international security.

Life

Gottemoeller received a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and an MA from George Washington University. She taught Soviet military policy at Georgetown University. From 1993 to 1994 she served as Director for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia responsible for denuclearization in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus at the National Security Council at the White House. Then Gottemoeller was three years as Deputy Director of the International Institute for Strategic Studies ( IISS ) in London.

It serves as Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affair at the State Department of the United States and reports to both the Secretary of State of the United States. She was sworn in on April 6, 2009. Previously, she was involved in several positions for disarmament negotiations and speaks fluent Russian.
