The river Rossiza ( Bulgarian Росица ) is a major tributary of the Yantra river in central northern Bulgaria, which in turn flows into the Danube.

The river is 164 km long and has a catchment area of 2265 km ².

The Rossiza rises in Kalofer Mountains ( Bulg Калоферска планина / Kaloferska planina, part of the central Balkans ) near the mountain hut Mazalat ( Bulg Мазалат ) and flows in a northerly direction. Its tributaries are the rivers:

  • Lopuschniza ( Bulg Лопушница )
  • Widima ( Bulg Видима )
  • Tschuparate ( Bulg Чупарата )
  • Krapez ( Bulg Крапец )
  • Negowanka ( Bulg Негованка )
  • Bochot ( Bulg Бохот ).

The town of Sevlievo ( Bulg Севлиево ) lies on the left bank. The Rossiza flows from the left in the Yantra River - within the territory of the village Kruscheto ( Bulg Крушето ).

In the city of Sevlievo performs a stone bridge over the river, which was built 1857-1858 by the architect Kolju Ficheto ( Bulg Колю Фичето ). The reservoir Aleksandar Stambolijski (named after Aleksandar Stambolijski ), which impounds the river, was built in 1953. Before that, there were several large floods by the Rossiza (1848, 1858, 1871, 1897, 1901). After heavy rains, the river rose on June 28, 1938 the bank. In this case, 47 people drowned and tens of houses were destroyed, drowned hundreds of pets and the area's infrastructure was destroyed.

The river flows past near the village Nikyup and the old Roman town of Nicopolis ad Istrum.
