The Rossberg is a 869 m above sea level. NHN high mountain on the escarpment, the northern edge of the Swabian Alb, in the Middle Kuppenalb. It lies on a peninsula -like plateau, the so-called Roßfeld connected only in the southeast with the rest of the plateau of the Swabian Alps and is bordered to the north by the Wiesaztal on the south by the valley of the Öschenbachs. The dome formed from Upper Jurassic rocks of the Roßbergs rises about 100 feet above the plateau. Located just west of it, the Small Rossberg concludes with 827 meters of height. This consists of tuff and is part of the Swabian volcano.

The nearest towns are Öschingen ( Mossingen ) in the west and Gönningen ( Reutlingen), to whose bounds the Mount, was in the Northeast, both of which lie below the Albtrauf, and in the east on the Swabian Alb Genkingen. From Genkingen from leading a five-kilometer road to the Rossberg up to the summit, where there is the Rossberg Tower, an observation tower with a restaurant, and a youth hostel of the Swabian Alp Association. The Roßbergtum is the 28 meter high observation tower on the Rossberg. At its peak the executed in cast concrete construction tower carries an antenna mast for bad radio. From the top of the tower overlooks the Swabian Alb and their foreland. In the west the view extends to the Black Forest, in the north to the beautiful book and the Stuttgart Television Tower. In the Northeast, among others, the Hohenstaufen and the ruins Hohenneuffen can be seen on the escarpment. If visibility is good, the summit of the northern Alps are visible to the south.

Quenstedt Memorial

On the western side of the migrant 's home stands at a vantage point, an obelisk, reminiscent of Friedrich August von Quenstedt. The geologist, paleontologist and local historian was a professor in Tübingen and a pioneer in the geological exploration of the Swabian Alb; the monument was inaugurated just four years after his death on July 9, 1893.
