Rosy Bindi

Maria Rosaria Bindi called Rosy Bindi ( born February 12, 1951 in Sinalunga, Siena Province) is an Italian politician and one of the founders of the Democratic Party of Italy. From May 2006 to May 2008, she was Minister of Family Affairs in the second cabinet of Romano Prodi. On 6 May 2008, she was elected alongside three other candidates for Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

Political career

After her political science studies Rosy Bindi was assistant to the renowned Vittorio Bachelet administration law expert, who was murdered on 12 February 1980 in her presence by the Red Brigades at the University of Rome La Sapienza.

She was involved in the Italian Youth Association of Catholic Action, whose deputy chairman it was from 1984 to 1989. In 1989 she became a member of the Christian Democrats (DC) and successfully ran for the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where she was first deputy chairman of the Development Committee and then Chairman of the Committee on Petitions.

After the dissolution of DC, she joined the Partito Popolare Italiano, as its representative, she was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 1994.
