The Rotpalfen or wall of water head is a 2367 m high summit in hochkalter massif in the German part of the Berchtesgaden Alps. He rises from the ridge that runs west of the blue ice from hochkalter north. To the north are the Hintersee and Ramsau near Berchtesgaden.

The Rotpalfen likely to be rare goal in a mountain ride. Usually it is exceeded while climbing Hochkalter on the normal route of the Blaueishütte or circumvented west. The 1680 m high hut is reached by Hintersee about the way 482. From there, a path across the moraine gravel of blue ice glacier leads to the southwest. Through a gravel channel in easy climbing to the west, the summit of Rotpalfens is the Einschartung of the " beautiful spot " reached (jobs in Difficulty II UIAA scale).

Between Rotpalfen and Small Cold a ravine, at the lower end of the climbing route Old Rotpalfen begins south wall runs. The route is 450 meters long and has the difficulty of the V and IV . Also by the east wall leads a climbing route in the fourth difficulty. Another route leads as Rotpalfenriß across the southeast edge ( V ).
