Roxie is a town in Franklin County, Mississippi, United States and is located about 32 kilometers southeast of Natchez. The census of 2000 indicate that it had 569 inhabitants.

History

Roxie was founded in 1886 on a plot of farmland, the County Supervisor John Q. Graves had donated for this purpose. In his honor, we named the place after his newborn daughter Roxie. 1890, the city was incorporated.

The founding Roxie served primarily the creation of a new transport hub of the railway company Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad (1882-1946, later merged into the Illinois Central Railroad ), which therefore also - was the most important employer in the area - in addition to the woodworking industry. As long as the transport business flourished, was the same for Roxie. So there were at that time several hotels, shops, a bank, cultural and educational facilities as well as various economic (eg saw mills, dairy, use of Cotton Gins ).

The importance of passenger rail transport was, however, gradually in the late 1980s, the passing right by the place north-south connection was finally abandoned, leaving only the remaining east-west connection.
