Roy Bailey (folk singer)

Roy Bailey ( * 1935 in London) is a political folk singer from England.

Biography

Bailey began his musical career in 1958 as a singer in a skiffle band. He became known in the 1970s, particularly by shooting with Martin Carthy and Leon Rosselson. Roy Bailey, despite his extensive musical career always Amateur and main occupation Professor of Sociology at the University of Sheffield Hallam. The Baileys are a musical family: On some of his CDs his wife Val is heard, his daughter Kit has taken over its management and son Martin Simpson is musically successful.

Awards and prizes

1989 Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts ( FRSA )

2000 Bailey was awarded for his services to English folk music, the Order Member of the Order of the British Empire ( MBE), but he returned in 2006 as a protest against British foreign policy in the Middle East.

In 2003 he won with Tony Benn to BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in the category ' Best Live Act '
