Roy William Neill

Roy William Neill, actually Roland de Gostrie (* September 4, 1887 near Ireland, † 14 December 1946 in London, United Kingdom) was an Irish film director.

Life

Roy William Neill was born on a boat off the coast of Ireland, where his father was the captain. His birth name was Roland de Gostrie. Neill began his work as a director in 1917 with a silent film. But the breakthrough did not come first, just in smaller films led Neill directed or acted as assistant director of two Frankenstein movies and Alfred Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes in appearance. He was then known mainly for directing and producing the last eleven of the fourteen Sherlock Holmes movies with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. Although these were also B- movies, but still enjoy great popularity. He was allowed to perform well in his third Frankenstein movie itself directed by this success.

Neill died in London in 1946 of a heart attack shortly after setting the legendary crime series.
