Royal Academy of Dance

The Royal Academy of Dance Worldwide Group (short RAD or Royal Academy of Dance, both short names are trademarks ) is an organization that publishes educational guidelines for the teaching of classical ballet, offering ballet classes and exams for ballet students and teachers decreases. History

1920 invites Philip Richardson, editor of the Dancing Times, some of the most important figures of classical dance to London with the aim to improve " the poor quality and poorly organized state of dance training this time in Britain ". This represented 5 distinguished guests the prevailing country-specific ballet techniques and schools:

  • Phyllis Bedells (England)
  • Lucia Cormani (Italy )
  • Edouard Espinosa (France)
  • Adeline Genée ( Bournonville School, Denmark)
  • Tamara Karsavina ( Imperial Ballet School, Russia)

A few months later, the Association of Teachers of Operatic Dancing ( "Association of teachers of theater dance " ) is founded and presented a first curriculum of the public. 1921 will be held the first examination of the elementary level, in the years that the tests will follow in the steps of intermediate and advanced. 1936 King George V shortly before his death patron of the organization, after which it changes to the Royal Academy of Dancing. The patronage has since been taken over by the reigning British Majesty. The Royal Academy of Dance and The Benesh Institute, an organization that deals with the written record of choreographies using the Benesh dance notation in 1997 to merge (see Choreology ).

Presence

The Royal Academy of Dance Worldwide Group consists of both a registered non-profit association and from a commercially operating department ( Royal Academy of Dance Enterprises). The RAD currently has approximately 13,000 members in 79 countries and has 36 country offices in which a total of 5,898 teachers have registered. Worldwide, around 250,000 students are taught using the curricula of the Royal Academy of Dance.
