Royal Castle, Poznań

Poznań's Royal Castle (Polish: Zamek Krolewski w Poznaniu ) is one of the oldest royal residences in Poland.

The original building goes back to the 13th century under the rule of Duke Przemysl I of Great Poland. He was greatly expanded under King Przemysl II and became one of the most important royal residences in the Kingdom of Poland. The castle has many historical events witnessed. In 1493, the Polish king took the homage of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order of Johann Depths counter here. The castle was partially destroyed during the Great Northern War 1700-1721 and fell into disrepair. Parts were manufactured in the late 18th century again, but again destroyed during the Second World War in 1945. As of 2012, a part was rebuilt in the south.
