Royal Czech Society of Sciences

The Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences ( Královská česká společnost nauk ) was the first learned society in Bohemia. It was founded in 1784 and existed until 1952, when it was incorporated the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.

History

Beginning of the 70s of the 18th century was formed in Prague within Ignaz von Born, an informal group of scientists who called themselves scholars society. She gave out the weekly magazine News scholars or scholars Prague News ( 1771-72 ), whose authors published mostly German. 1775 turned out in Prague with the memoirs of a private company in Bohemia for receiving the mathematics, the country's history and natural history ( 1775-84 ), the following " Bohemian scholar private society".

She was a loose association that was founded in 1784 with the permission of the Emperor Joseph II as " Bohemian Society of Sciences " and received fixed organizational structures. 1790 approved Leopold II renamed the " Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences ". This designation retained the company until 1952, when it rose along with the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts in the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.

The Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences was first divided into the physical, mathematical and historical class. With the amendment of 1791 was restructured on the physico- mathematical and the national- historical class.

Among the well-known public figures were among others Karel Rafael Ungar, Josef Dobrovský, Franz Josef Gerstner, Antonín Strnad, František Palacký and Jan Evangelista Purkyně.
