Royal Order of KalÄkaua
The Order of Kalākaua I. was donated on 12 February 1874 as a merit award for excellent services by David Kalākaua, King of Hawaii.
Order of classes
The order consisted of four classes. The number of members was regulated.
- Grand Cross with Collar of 12 members
- Grand Officer on 20 members
- Commander to 30 members
- Companions to 60 members
Order decoration
The religious character is a golden blue enameled Maltese cross with white enamel bezel that is supported by a royal crown. In the cross angles a so-called Puloulou rod is attached to each. Among the cross arms a garland runs. In blue enameled medallion, that of white enamel ring with the golden inscription KALAKAUA ‣ FEBRUARY 12 TH 1874 is enclosed, a Kahili is seen.
Carrying method
The Grand Cross was worn on a Collar of around the neck and chest with a eight-pointed star, on which rests the religious character. Grand Officer and Commander decorated the award as a neck order, Grand Officers in addition to a somewhat reduced breast star. Companions carried the cross made of silver on the left chest.
The ribbon is white with four blue stripes.
