Royal Order of Victoria and Albert

The Royal Order of Victoria and Albert is a part of the British honor system, and Royal family north of Britain, which was founded on February 10, 1862 by Queen Victoria. After the Queen's death in 1901, the award was not awarded.

The Order, which was awarded exclusively to women, went to people who had served the Majesty personally. These were mostly members of the royal courtiers and family members. The winners of the Order, the so-called Companions, it is permitted to wear the initials VA (so-called "post- nominals " ) after their name but their are no other benefits were granted. The number of carriers of the order was not limited - the last surviving holder of the Order was Alice, Countess of Athlone ( 1883-1981 ).
